A Word from our Editor

A word from our illustrious Editor, Jez Strickley…

Dear all,

I appreciate that you’ve probably received a message or two from Bob re: #24 of Whotopia, but I thought I’d throw in an extra word or two on the topic.

First off, many thanks to those of you who have already contributed articles, and/or indicated that you’re planning to do so. It’s always a pleasure to read your work.

Secondly, as you may be aware the #24 deadline has been moved back to the end of May. As such, Bob and I are still considering material to include in the issue, and are very happy to look at any ideas you might like to run by us.

Lastly, we’re hoping to get #24 out by mid-summer, with a view to tackling Whotopia’s landmark Issue 25 later in the autumn.

Thank you for all your support and I hope to hear from you soon.

Kind regards,
Jez

ARTICLES & ART WANTED for ISSUE 23!

Hi all. It’s beg, borrow, or steal time.

Alright; listen up all of you Matt Smith/11th Doctor era fans!

Whotopia needs your support and we need you to pen to paper, or fingers to keyboards. We’re in need of material related to Matt Smith’s era of Doctor Who for the next issue of the zine. In the words of Jez, our illustrious editor…

Quote:
At this stage, Bob and I are hoping to get #23 released very early in the New Year. So far we have Series Six reviews, an interview, another instalment of ‘Dalek’s Advocate’ and the usual columns. So, what we’re still looking for is stand-alone articles and hopefully a lead feature of around 3000 words.

If you have any thoughts on Moffat, Matt Smith’s Doctor, new-style Daleks and the now well-used time-wimey plotline, plus a host of other Eleventh Doctor topics, do let us know by December 15th.

While we’re primarily looking for 11th Doctor topics, I’ll mention we’re also looking for someone to review episodes 6-10 of Torchwood: Miracle Day, and if anyone’s so inclined, now that the series has come to an end, an overview of the Sarah Jane Adventures.

So if you’re interested in penning something for this issue, please drop us a email.

Comic Wanted for Whotopia

Whotopia would like to feature a one-off or an on-going Doctor Who comic in the magazine.

It can be just a one page spread or a multiple page spread and can be a completed one-off full story, a on-going multi-part story, or just a different strip each issue, and (in a perfect world) preferably already completed or near completion.

We publish in 8.5×11 inch size so it would be good if the comic was drawn to fit this page size.

If it’s possible, we’d like to include the first instalment beginning in issue 22, if not, definitely in issue 23.

If you’re a comic artist who finds this idea of interest, we’d like to hear from you. If you’d like further information, or interested, please feel free email us directly. Cheers.

Doctor Who Convention in Vancouver – A Follow-Up

Do you recall our May 26th post about the possibility of a Doctor Who convention in Vancouver?

Well, you didn’t imagine it.  Yup, it’s true.

A group of people who were responsible for organizing several local Vancouver Doctor Who events (e.g. Who Party West, Who Party West III, TMOVsocials, and other events) are currently in discussions about the possibility of holding a Doctor Who convention here in Vancouver.  Nothing has been planned for definite yet, but talks continue.  In fact, in the next month or two, there are plans to hold an organization meeting for interested parties to attend and discuss this possible event.

So if you’d like to see a Doctor Who convention held in Vancouver, stay tuned to this blog for news on when the first organizational meeting will be held.
