Another Cover Story

Carrying on from our theme on Whotopia covers yesterday, here are two examples of proposed covers dating back to issues 8 and 9.  This was around the time when it was decided to update the Whotopia logo as well as make a change to the overall look of the zine.  I’m pretty sure both covers were designed by Jack Drewell, (I’m sure I’ll be corrected if this is wrong), and this gives you an idea of what we were aiming for.

Looking back at these, I’m pretty impressed by both covers and I’m surprised we never had them fully realized and used, but like all things, covers get changed around, revised, changed.

Genesis of a Whotopia Cover

Sometimes when we’re putting together an issue of Whotopia things get changed or moved around as we’re working on the issue.  We might move an article to further in the issue, or maybe we’ll move that interview closer to the start of the issue.  One aspect of the zine that is also open to change is the cover.  I found the below recently on my personal computer and thought I’d share it with our readers.  This was the proposed cover for issue 17.  As you can see its quite different to the cover we actually did use.  I’m not sure why we changed the cover but this is a good example of how things work around Whotopia HQ.

Where’s Issue 8?

8_lower_resI know, I know.  I hang my head in shame.  I have to apologize to those of you who’ve visited our back issues section on the Whotopia site for the continued absense of issue 8.

Sadly issue 8 continues to be unavailable for download.  When we were originally uploading all of back issues to the redesigned site, we discovered that we didn’t have a copy of the actual published issue on file – parts of the issue were missing.  I have no idea how this happened, but happen it did.  Unfortunately this meant having to go back and recreate the issue from scratch.

But not to worry, we’re working to make this issue available to our readers as quickly as possible, but in the meantime, please rest assured we hope to have it online before the end of the year.
