Issue 18 Update

Just a quick update on issue 18.

After sorting through various software problems etc, I’m happy to say that the issue is 95% near completion.  Jez and myself have reviewed the second draft of the layout, which was returned to Will today to fix a few minor items.  We’re hoping to have these corrected and the final draft PDF back to us within a week and on the site – fingers crossed – sometime the first week in April.  The final page count will be 86 pages, so its going to be a bumper issue – one we hope will make up for the long wait our readers have had to put up with.

Future Issues

While work continues on Issue 18, we have some news for you about future issues 19 and 20…

From Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures to a certain 1981 Christmas Special, Whotopia 19 explores the ever-growing universe of Doctor Who. Along with all the regular columns and reviews we are proud to present exclusive interviews with former Who director Michael E. Briant, and the makers behind the acclaimed fan-fiction project Victimsight.

Matt Smith may be just weeks away from his début adventure as the all-new Eleventh Doctor, but the farewell accolades for David Tennant’s zany geek-chic Doc are still coming thick and fast. Not to be left out, Whotopia 20 presents a series of tributes to the Tenth Doctor as we look back on five wonderful years. Columns, reviews and much much more.

Throughout the season there will be a force or entity that is trying to assert its power and influence. The Doctor will continually feel like his life is not his own. Something, or someone, is trying to control him. Trying to influence him and guide his destiny. Something is trying to take control of the universe and make it its own. The Great Intelligence is at work again. Each story the Doctor will battle its influence either directly or indirectly. But each time he does, his life seems to be slipping away from him. Each battle tires him out more and more and he begins to age. By the end of the season the Great Intelligence will be at full power and will make its last great stab at taking over the entire universe. Despite the Doctor being tired and worn out he summonds the strength and courage to defeat the Great Intelligence one last time.

The Doctor will be joined by two new companions this season in the form of Val Rossi and Tom Brooker who will travel alongside of the ninth Doctor.

Throughout the season, as well as before and after, readers are encouraged to join the TDWP FORUM at www.thedoctorwhoproject.com/forum to participate in discussions, polls, share opinions and more on the stories and overall season. Membership is free to join, so drop on by and sign up today.

Whotopia Forums

We thought we’d let our readers know that we’ve decided to temporarily close down our readers forum until further notice.  It’s regretable that we’ve had to do this, but after the forums were hacked into, and we tried to repair them, it was decided that until we can find some better forum software, we would close the discussions forums for the time being.  We apologize to those of you who were regular users of the forums but due to circumstances beyond our control, we felt this would be our best option for the time being.  Rest assure though, we are looking into possible replacements and hopefully our forums will return soon.

Record Downloads

Exciting news around Whotopia HQ. We’ve just learned that issue 17 has hit 850 downloads since it went online last fall. In addition to this, issue 16 has just surpassed the 650 download mark. All of us here at the HQ are really pleased with these numbers especially as they far exceed our expectations and well exceed what the magazine sold in hardcopy numbers. And its all becasue of you, the readers of the magazine and the fans of Doctor Who. Thank you. Without your support and continued support, we wouldn’t be celebrating this moment
